We
are a small socially conscious small business and we are proud to
be green. Here are some of the actions we are taking on a daily
basis:
| |
GIVING
BACK We believe in spreading the wealth. Being
a good business is about more than just making money, but
leveraging our resources to make a positive impact. In 2007
we donated over 3% of our profits to various local and global
causes including Global
Green, The
Whole Planet Foundation, and The Princess
Project. In 2008 we will begin a targeted giving partnership
with a humanitarian and environmental non-profit organization.
Stay tuned!
GREEN
STUDIO Our studio office is completely powered
by renewable power. This means that our lights and our laptop
are powered by renewable landfill gas and biogas instead of
petroleum! Pretty neat, huh? Village
Green Energy makes this possible.
ECO-JEWELRY
While the jewelry industry as a whole has a ways to go before
it’s materials and processes are earth-friendly, we
produce eco-friendly jewelry right now with creative alternatives
to the standard materials. Our Recycled
Elements line is from recycled glass and recycled silver
and we are working on new lines utilizing fair trade silver,
vintage trade beads and locally mined and cut stones. Please
find more information on our materials below.
RECYCLED MARKETING MATERIALS
and PACKAGING All of our business cards and
other marketing materials are printed on post consumer recycled
paper by a local company called Greener
Printer. In our shipping processes we reuse boxes
and packing material whenever possible. This means that jewelry
ordered online may not reach your mailbox in a shiny new box,
but why create a new box when there are plenty already out
there?
RECYCLED GIFT BOXES
Jewelry that calls for a gift box is packaged in handsome
brown boxes from 100% recycled boxboard. Please let us know
if you’d like your jewelry packed in a gift box.
GOOD OL’ HANDMADE GOODS
There’s something to be said for doing
things the old fashioned way. Instead of mass produced jewelry
that pops out of a factory. Our jewelry is crafted by hand,
with love.
EDUCATION All
online purchases of our Recycled Elements line come with information
on how the recipient can continue to make choices that will
benefit our environment and humanity. While even the smallest
action is important, some actions have a bigger impact than
others, and we are helping to spread the word about what we
each can do. |
More
about our materials:
Stefanie Wolf
Designs is deeply committed to working with materials that have
been sourced in an ethical, fair and sustainable way. Although we
cannot yet claim that 100% of our stones, metals and components
are sustainably sourced, we are proud to be on the cutting edge
of artisan jewelers. Stefanie is a member of Ethical
Metalsmiths, a community of concerned artisans lobbying for
responsibly sourced materials, and she tirelessly asks industry
suppliers for higher levels of accountability. Currently less than
a handful of semi-precious stone suppliers can actually guarantee
responsible sourcing, yet Stefanie Wolf Designs is part of a growing
number of small businesses and artisans asking for real change in
the industry.
Frustrated by
the limited availability of gemstones that are guaranteed as ethically
sourced, we recently turned our attention to a completely renewable
resource: recycled glass. Stefanie is thrilled to announce the recent
addition of eco-friendly jewelry to her collections, handcrafted
from 100% recycled glass and sterling silver.
Our jewelry
lines include the Root Rocks collection featuring vibrant natural
gemstones with innate healing qualities, the Trilogy line featuring
handmade glass tiles ethically made in a small European crafting
village, and the new Recycled
Elements line with recycled glass and silver.
We continue
to seek out new and creative ways to offer eco-friendly jewelry
to our customers. If you have any ideas or questions, please contact
us anytime. We continue to be inspired as we connect with our
customers and the growing community of my small business counterparts
as we lay the groundwork for a cleaner, greener economy.
